Vangelis Pavlidis was born and lives permanently in Rhodes. He has studied graphic arts at the Athens Technological Institute. Since 1971 he has been political cartoonist, first with the Athens daily TO VIMA, then with ELEFTHEROTYPIA and from 1989 to the present again with TO VIMA. He has publishedfour albums ofhis cartoons. In 1983 he began to illustrate children's books as well. He has illustrated the works of several of the best Greek writers, while the ''Tales of the Lighthouse'' (1983) was written and illustrated exclusively by him. He has exhibited solo in Oslo (1978), in Athens (1987), in several Greek cities, and of course in Rhodes. His cartoons have been published or reproduced in many newspapers and magazines abroad.

He has participated in international exhibitions in Amsterdam, Berlin, Bologna, Bratislava, Havana, Istanbul, Lisbon, Montreal, New York, Teheran, Tokyo, and elsewhere andhas won many prizes and distinctions. He has exhibited as aguest artist in the non-competitive sector of the 8th Biennial of Gabrovo, Bulgaria (1987), and by invitation in St. Esteve, France (1992), and in Ruthdrum, Eire (1994). In 1983 he was a member of the jury in Skopje, and 1993 in Istanbul. In 1976, in a survey conducted by the House of Humor and Satire of Gabrovo among 846 cartoonists and newspapers from 78 countries, he was elected among the "100 Best Contemporary Cartoonists''.

In 1990, together with 49 other European cartoonists, he was invited to participate in the exhibition "KARIKATUR-EUROPAISCHE KUNSTLER DER GEGENW-ART" in the Wilhelm Busch Museum of Hanover. Works of his are owned and exhibited by the House of Humor and Satire of Gabrovo, and the gallery SAMMLUNG KARIKATUREN of Basel. In 1994, nominated by the Children's Books Circle of Greece, he was included in the Honor List of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).
